- NfoNak - "See information about how your computer is
- performing in a more interesting way"
-
- What NfoNak does
- ----------------
- NfoNak allows you to display a variety of details about your computers current
- activity and performance e.g. how busy it is, how fast it is receiving data from
- the internet etc in a varity of ways.
- NfoNak can be run as both a normal program and a screen saver. As a screen saver
- it is a great way to quickly see how your computer is working.
-
- The indicator styles available and what varies with changes to measurements
- - Sticks
- The number of sticks displayed
- - Dual colored sticks
- The ratio of the two colors
- - Worm
- The length of the worm
- - Pie
- The size of the pie slice
- - Dial
- Where the pointer on the dial is pointing
- - Iris
- The size of the inner colored circle
- - Curves
- The number of curves displayed
- - Text
- The numbers displayed
-
-
- Using NfoNak ... the main thing to remember is right-clicking
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- After installing just run the NfoNak, to add/delete/change the indicators right-
- click the program and select properties. Using the right-click you can also
- change "Stay on Top" and "No Title" options.
-
- If no indicators are active or none have been set up or the first time NfoNak is
- run after installing or re-installing then NfoNak goes into a "demo" mode where
- it changes the indicator styles about every 10 seconds, using the "Heartbeat"
- measurement and pseudo-random colors.
-
-
- Requirements
- ------------
- Windows 95/98 or higher or Windows NT 4.0 or higher
-
-
- Installation Notes
- ------------------
- If you are installing a new version of this software you should uninstall the
- old version first, you may need to restart your computer to free all the files.
- When NfoNak is used for the first time it goes into the demo mode.
-
-
- Registration
- ------------
- This version of NfoNak is freeware so no registration is required.
-
-
- Known Issues
- ------------
- General
- Some of the displays appear jerky, this is largely due to the fact that
- readings can change rapidly, and the display is trying to keep up with these
- changes.
-
- If the indicators are not changing (worm length etc) there may be no changes
- in the item being measured.
-
- With the "Text" indicator you should experiment with font size and step size
- to get the best display. The larger the font the less often it is updated -
- this is to reduce CPU usage.
-
- Windows 95/98 Only
- The monitoring of the data rate to and from your modem works only for the
- first modem device set up as a dialup adaptor.
-
- Internet Data ...
- Windows 95 - Microsoft Dialup Networking
- If you are using a Windows dial-up connection and get zero all the time when
- monitoring dialup connection data rates you may have an old version of
- Microsoft Dial-up Networking. If you want you can download the latest version
- from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).
-
- If you are using an older version of Microsoft Dialup Networking you will get
- a warning only once - so you can keep using the older version if you want to.
-
- Windows 95 - WinSock
- If you are monitoring TCP/IP data and get zero all the time you may have an
- old version of WinSock. If you want you can download the latest version from
- Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).
-
- If you are using an older version of WinSock you will get a warning only once
- - so you can keep using the older version if you want to.
-
- Windows NT - Service Packs
- If you are monitoring TCP/IP data and using Windows NT 4.0 you should have
- Service Pack 4 or later. If you want you can download the latest version from
- Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).
-
- If you are using an older Service Pack you will get a warning only once - so
- you can keep using the older version if you want to.
-
- The other main reason for always getting a zero reading when monitoring TCP/IP
- data is that the file inetmib1.dll is missing and needs installing. Under
- Windows 95 the update to WinSock Version 2 needs to have been installed as
- well.
-
- Using TCP/IP Monitor and getting pulsed data only
- Some systems update the TCP/IP statistics less often than others. To improve
- the display set a slower display update speed under "Properties".
