  7. What NfoNak does
  8. ----------------
  9. NfoNak allows you to display a variety of details about your computers current
  10. activity and performance e.g. how busy it is, how fast it is receiving data from
  11. the internet etc in a varity of ways.
  12. NfoNak can be run as both a normal program and a screen saver. As a screen saver
  13. it is a great way to quickly see how your computer is working.

  15. The indicator styles available and what varies with changes to measurements
  16. - Sticks
  17.      The number of sticks displayed
  18. - Dual colored sticks
  19.      The ratio of the two colors
  20. - Worm
  21.      The length of the worm
  22. - Pie
  23.      The size of the pie slice
  24. - Dial
  25.      Where the pointer on the dial is pointing
  26. - Iris
  27.      The size of the inner colored circle
  28. - Curves
  29.      The number of curves displayed
  30. - Text
  31.      The numbers displayed

  34. Using NfoNak ... the main thing to remember is right-clicking
  35. -------------------------------------------------------------
  36. After installing just run the NfoNak, to add/delete/change the indicators right-
  37. click the program and select properties. Using the right-click you can also
  38. change "Stay on Top" and "No Title" options.

  40. If no indicators are active or none have been set up or the first time NfoNak is
  41. run after installing or re-installing then NfoNak goes into a "demo" mode where
  42. it changes the indicator styles about every 10 seconds, using the "Heartbeat"
  43. measurement and pseudo-random colors.

  51. Installation Notes
  52. ------------------
  53. If you are installing a new version of this software you should uninstall the
  54. old version first, you may need to restart your computer to free all the files.
  55. When NfoNak is used for the first time it goes into the demo mode.

  58. Registration

  60. This version of NfoNak is freeware so no registration is required.

  63. Known Issues
  64. ------------
  65. General
  66.   Some of the displays appear jerky, this is largely due to the fact that
  67.   readings can change rapidly, and the display is trying to keep up with these
  68.   changes.
  69.  
  70.   If the indicators are not changing (worm length etc) there may be no changes
  71.   in the item being measured.
  72.  
  73.   With the "Text" indicator you should experiment with font size and step size
  74.   to get the best display. The larger the font the less often it is updated -
  75.   this is to reduce CPU usage.

  77.   Windows 95/98 Only
  78.     The monitoring of the data rate to and from your modem works only for the
  79.     first modem device set up as a dialup adaptor.

  82.   Windows 95 - Microsoft Dialup Networking
  83.    If you are using a Windows dial-up connection and get zero all the time when
  84.    monitoring dialup connection data rates you may have an old version of
  85.    Microsoft Dial-up Networking. If you want you can download the latest version
  86.    from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).

  88.    If you are using an older version of Microsoft Dialup Networking you will get
  89.    a warning only once - so you can keep using the older version if you want to.

  91.   Windows 95 - WinSock
  92.    If you are monitoring TCP/IP data and get zero all the time you may have an
  93.    old version of WinSock. If you want you can download the latest version from
  94.    Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).

  96.    If you are using an older version of WinSock you will get a warning only once
  97.    - so you can keep using the older version if you want to.

  99.   Windows NT - Service Packs
  100.    If you are monitoring TCP/IP data and using Windows NT 4.0 you should have
  101.    Service Pack 4 or later. If you want you can download the latest version from
  102.    Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads).

  104.    If you are using an older Service Pack you will get a warning only once - so
  105.    you can keep using the older version if you want to.

  107.   The other main reason for always getting a zero reading when monitoring TCP/IP
  108.   data is that the file inetmib1.dll is missing and needs installing. Under
  109.   Windows 95 the update to WinSock Version 2 needs to have been installed as
  110.   well.

  112.  Using TCP/IP Monitor and getting pulsed data only
  113.   Some systems update the TCP/IP statistics less often than others. To improve
  114.   the display set a slower display update speed under "Properties".
